I Moved to Bali. So what will you do there?
As an American I take a certain pride in being productive and efficient. I don’t aspire to the clockwork precision of the Germans or the Swiss however. I most admire the Yankee “Can do” attitude. I was once characterized as a “scrappy” entrepreneur and I wore that badge proudly.
Moving to Bali and applying for a “retirement” visa has caused me to take stock of what, if any, productive motivations remain.
(A local entrepreneur)
Having bought a villa my first tasks were to get linens, pillows, towels, bedding, as well as the full range of kitchen items. Making lists and checking off household items made me feel productive and comfortable.
Long-term the real challenge is to allow each day to unfold without goals or tasks. To find purpose in day to day interactions, to be grateful to explore another culture unencumbered by excessive bills or financial pressures. To accept that in Rome I should do what the Romans do.
In Bali that might mean flying a kite.
