V.I.P. Indah Pragina in Pererenan

So the move was easy enough. Our concerns about our dog Jimboo running off or barking endlessly or tearing up the plants were, fortunately, unwarranted. In fact this mult-bungalow complex is an upgrade for our dog, since there are two resident dogs here and one more in the fancy private three-bedroom villa that’s next-door (and owned by the same owner as our bungalows — so there’s a shared doorway).

Our “downgrade” of losing our private kitchen and gorgeous home and incredible view is a larger adjustment. But whenever I’ve lived in high-end homes I’ve always felt a bit uncomfortable, as if I’m living beyond my means (even when I’m not).

That must have something to do with growing up lower-middle class. The idea that a luxury space is somehow “mine” feels a bit fake. It is also usually more isolating, as wealthier living comes with more privacy and protections.

The idea of living modestly also feels good. Sometimes it opens up other doors. For example, taking a trip won’t feel as hard on the wallet; meeting others is easier (as this is a shared space); and saving more money for the upcoming three-villa project is a bonus too.

And the largest bonus of all is to be able to walk to the project site:

In general this location feels private enough, as only two of the four bungalows are currently booked. And the only rented bungalow besides ours has a young couple that’s gone all day. So it may become an issue if all four bungalows were rented and it became a party place, but this area doesn’t attract that type of crowd in the way that Canggu or Kuta does.

This morning we had the pool to ourselves and the only folks around was the support staff. Our bungalow gets cleaned every day — we get air conditioning, internet, gardening and pool care for $483 a month.

Not bad eh?
